I have noticed in my four years as an obsessive knitter that there is a remarkable dearth of good Jewish patterns for knitting. In fact, there is even a dearth of bad patterns featuring anything remotely Judaic in nature. There are the odd crocheted kippahs, a few truly hideous knitted dreidels, but nothing for a young, hip knitter to call her own. In the overwhelmingly empty space of Jewish knitting, surprising as so many Jews have taken up needles in the last few years, I feel a designer must step up to the plate and provide useful, interesting, and generally fun patterns for those of us who do not get to knit stockings on a regular basis, must abstain from the cute piggy slippers, and otherwise hold fast to our Judaic principles in the face of reindeer sweaters and omnipresent red and green yarn. I feel as a knitter and designer, it's time for me to give something back to the community. I vow to provide links and particularly patterns for the young Jewish knitter. For that matter, I hope a few hip Jewish patterns will even appeal to the Bubbe-types, because Jewish knitters are never too old for fun.
As one Member of the Tribe to another- I bid you welcome. I hope that this blog helps you find just a little bit more shalom in your craft.
